This week I’ve been super hyped up for…
Divergent is my favourite book at the moment as not only is it a dystopian set book, with action and romance, the morals and the themes in the books are very relatable! I’m super excited as well for the movie that has came out today! The actors Theo James (He’s like my celeb crush atm :3) and Shailene Woodley are perfect to play the parts Tris and Four (Tobias)! So… GO READ IT! I MEAN IT!
In the books, the Dauntless Faction have a famous cake which they all love-The Dauntless Chocolate Cake! Though the book doesn’t describe the cake in much detail apart from it being absolutely delicious, I’ve decided to bake these brownies as a celebration for the movie!
A little shout out to Veronica Roth as you’re my ultimate inspiration and I admire you so so much for your talent! 🙂
Do you see the cracked top?! On the top brownie?! Mmm. they’re my favourite part!
Brownies are often made with melted chocolate, but these brownies can be chocolate free as I’m using cocoa powder instead! It just makes life so much more easier when you don’t have to wait there thinking about melted chocolate and watching it melt hungrily and being tempted to just go and ditch the brownies and eat the chocolate mmm!
Brownies are my favourite chocolate related cake/fudge dessert! Whether it is served with mint ice cream, vanilla, or even stand alone, it’s perfect to me! But it’s just so hard to get the perfect brownies outside-some are so fudgy and stick to your teeth *ew* *especially since I have braces*, yet some just feel like a cake, and aren’t dense enough!
So I present to you, my favourite brownies of all, in which i think have the perfect balance between a fudge and a cake!
1 cup sugar
3/4 cup cocoa powder
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp baking powder
1 tsp espresso powder (optional)
1 tsp vanilla extract
2 cold large eggs
2/3 cup flour
2/3 cups chocolate chips, pecans and walnuts or even pistachios, of your choice!
Preheat your even to 190 C
Melt off the butter in a saucepan whilst whisking continuously
Turn off the heat and add sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, salt, vanilla extract and espresso powder to the pan
Stir until thoroughly mixed and set aside for 5 mins to cool
Beat in the eggs vigorously one at a time with a spatula/wooden spoon
When the mixture looks thick and shiny, add in flour and stir until no flour streaks are left
Beat the mixture vigorously again for 50 strokes
Mixture should be cool right now and add in your chocolate chips/toppings of choice and mix thoroughly
Pour batter into a lined baking pan and bake for 20-25 mins* until toothpick comes out clean
Leave to cool in the pan on a wire rack
When cool it’s ready to eat!
*If you want a more fudge-like brownie aim for around 20-23 mins, for a more cake like brownie go for 25 mins
Props to Cookie and Kate’s “very best brownie” recipe! Their photography is absolutely amazing so go check it out!
