I’ve been really obsessed with cupcakes lately, so I’ve decided to take a break from that no matter how tempted I am to make Matcha Cupcakes (I’ll hopefully be making these soon)! I’ve been loving the combination of eating orange segments and chocolate pieces for a sneaky snack whilst I’ve been doing my work… So, I’ve decided to find a recipe that combines the both! This is a Chocolate Orange Twist!
The local oranges are absolutely beautiful!
These two flavours go so well together in this rich buttery bread-it’s like a brioche!
Without further rambling, this is the recipe!
1 tbsp instant dried yeast
2 tbsp sugar
80ml warmed milk
A few drops of Vanilla Extract
Pinch of Salt
1 Orange, zested
3-5 tbsp cocoa powder
1 extra egg for glazing
Dissolve yeast into milk by whisking in a small bowl
Mix flour, butter, eggs, sugar, salt and vanilla extract in a bowl by hand/dough hook until just combined
Splash in the milk and knead for 10 mins until silky and elastic-it will be very sticky
Split dough in half and add cocoa powder to one and orange zest to the other
Mix them both thoroughly
Transfer the doughs to two different floured bowls and cover with cling-film
Leave in a warm place for 1 hour or until they double in size
Peel back cling-film and knock out air for both doughs
Roll doughs into long sausage shapes
Twist chocolate dough and orange dough around each other and roll into a swirl, then lay on a floured tray*
Leave to rise for another 30 mins
Preheat an oven to 180 C
Brush bread with beaten egg
Bake for 25 mins and set aside to rest for 20 mins
You may drizzle with chocolate syrup and toasted hazelnuts but this is optional
Makes one loaf
*If you are unsure about this step, I’ve made a small video to show you how to do this:

P.S. This is a really ugly video haha, but if you need help on knowing how to make the twist if the explanation above isn’t clear, you can look at this or the Sorted Food Website because their video is ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!
Props to Sorted Food who are absolutely amazing and they’re literally my food idols! If you ever check out their Caramel Popcorn and Malt Shake drink video, they feature my Lemon Tart picture from a post last month!
